The Speaker Reel Checklist

What bookers actually want to see

Your speaker reel is the single most important asset in your speaking business. A planner watches the first 30–60 seconds and makes a call. Here's what earns the booking.

The first 10 seconds

  • Open on a big-stage wide shot with visible audience — scale sells
  • Lead with your single strongest line or moment
  • Show your name and topic on a clean lower-third immediately

What to include

  • Multiple stages and venues — it signals you're in demand
  • Audience reactions: laughter, nodding, a standing ovation
  • A range that matches the topics you're booked for
  • A testimonial line or a wall of event logos
  • You commanding the room — movement and presence, not a podium read

What to cut

  • Long intros and slow build-ups
  • Single-angle or low-resolution footage
  • Anything past about two minutes
  • Music that competes with your voice

Technical must-haves

  • 4K source footage
  • Burned-in captions
  • A 16:9 cut for your site and a 9:16 cut for social
  • An end card with exactly how to book you
